量詞一般看作單數:

有些單詞或短語,若跟有不可數名詞,則成為量詞,因此是單數,如跟有可數名詞,則成為數詞,這時就成了復數:
There is enough(量詞)water.

More trucks are required.
Some coffee has been ordered.
Some apples have been stolen.

Each wears a cap.但:They each wear caps.
Either(or Neither)(作形容詞)party is right.
Either(or Neither)(作代詞)of the two parties has its good leader.
Either(or Neither)(作代詞) have their good leaders.(口語體)

What引起的從句多作單數:
What he is doing is trivial.
What made me sad was his unhappy marriage.
如果補語是一個復數名詞,what引起的從句也可作復數看待:
What children like are stories.
What seem to be boats are rocks.
這主要得根據情況決定,試比較下面句子:
What(= A thing that) seems to be a rat is something else.
What(= Things that) seem to be rats are some other ani-mals.
His family(作為整體)is large.
集體名詞可以表示一個集體,可以看作是單數,如果表示其成員,就可以作復數看待,特別是在英國:
His family(= The members of his family) are all well.
一個集體名詞若有every,each,a,this,that修飾,常常作單數看待:
